Quebec City, Canada by Lachy

12-13 August

We drove from Acadia National Park to Quebec City in Canada.  In Quebec City there are lots of French speaking people.  There are lots of French restaurants - we went to French bakery for breakfast and we had crepes for dinner which was  delicious.

We walked around the French streets, went on the wall that protected the English from being attacked by the French.  We also went to the Museum about the French and British war and it told us about bloody and cruel the war was and it explains why people in Quebec speak French.

We also went to Mortello Tower which was basically indestructible because round balls bounced off the tower.  Bullet shaped cannon balls were not used back then and they were the only think that could break through.  The French could only shoot into tiny spaces within the tower so they couldn't win.

The British side won the war and Canada was formed.  The French and Native Indians signed a deed with the Britain and then they built the railway tracks through to the side of Canada.

A few words I learnt in French were Nord (North), Sud (South), Est (East), Quest (West), bonjour (hello), merci (thank you),  hotel was the same but it had a little arrow over the top of the letter o., marche was market.

Quebec City also has a star shaped citadel that was built to keep the French out of the British colony.  It is still used today as a military post and they have a changing of the guards.  The guards don't move and if it's not raining they stand outside.  It was raining so they were standing still in a little blue hut.

The Green Mt's of Vermont by Mia

14th - 15th August

We left Montreal which is in Canada and crossed the border back into America.  We travelled by our rental car to the Green Mountains in Vermont.

Vermont has lots of tiny towns, covered bridges, windy roads and lots of green trees.

We stayed in the ski resort of Killington for the night. After dinner we went for a relaxing swim.  It was heated but it was raining.

The next morning we had breakfast and then drove to the gondola which goes up to the top of the mountain.  It was freezing that morning... about 3 degrees and it's the middle of summer!!

Once we got up to the top we hopped out and went for a few walks.  The view was spectacular, higher than the "beehive".  It was over 1200 metres high.  We had a lovely lunch looking over the view.

Antlers are shed every year and the Moose grow new ones, so they make great dog bones.

Acadia National Park, Maine by Mia

8 - 10 August

We went to Acadia National Park in Maine.  It is on the East Coast of America and we camped in the national park.  Acadia has mountains, the Atlantic Ocean which was freezing and it has lots of trees and lakes.

One day we hiked the "Beehive", a tall mountain where we had to climb through tiny spaces and steep ladders made of steel.  If you were being silly and thought it was just a normal hike and fell over, you could die.  From the very top of the "Beehive"  you could see the sand beach in the Atlantic and little lakes.

Maine is famous for lots of lobsters.  There are thousands of lobster pots dotted all over the water.  We went for dinner to a lobster restaurant where they cooked the lobsters outside for you.  Mum and dad had lobster and Lachy had lobster pasta.

Montreal, Canada by Liam

14th August 2014

In Montreal we saw a theme park but we didn't go in.  We went to the pool in our hotel.

We went on a horse carriage ride around the old Montreal.

We watched the street magic show.  He threw the rings up in the air and they joined together.

Today we are going back to America.

Digby's house

Yesterday we went to Digby's house in America.  I am playing with Digby.  We are playing imaginary fighting games, fighting the Guardians.

Today we floated down a river on a plastic ring and we went for a horse riding lesson. It was fun!
